Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can cold And Muscle Pain Along With Chills Be Treated?
I am getting concerned. I have had a cold with general body muscle aches, and chills for four days. I have had a hard time expectorating, and just tried Mucinex for the first time. Yesterday there was occasionally a little blood, today, after taking 1200 Mucinex there is noticably more blood when I can blow my nose or spit out the phlegm.
Since you've had blood both when blowing the nose and when spitting out phlegm the most likely bleeding site should be located somewhere inside the nasal cavity. Blood from the nasal cavity may descend to the airways and cause bloody phlegm. Blowing the nose a lot may end up in minor bleeding. It's a fairly common event during the course of upper respiratory tract infections.
An ENT specialist can examine your upper respiratory tract airways and identify the bleeding site. If the bleeding is ongoing or difficult to control then visiting the ER is recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis,
